Chitral is a town situated on the Chitral River in the northern part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan. It serves as the capital of the Lower Chitral District, and was previously the capital of Chitral District, and before that, the capital of Chitral state, which was dissolved and made an administrative unit of West Pakistan between 1969 and 1972.
