K2, also known as Mount Godwin-Austen, at 8,611 metres (28,251 ft) above sea level, is the second-highest mountain on Earth, after Mount Everest at 8,849 metres (29,032 ft). It lies in the Karakoram range, partially in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan-administered Kashmir and partially in the China-administered Trans-Karakoram Tract in the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang.

The best months to visit K2 Base Camp are May, June, July, August, September. During these months the weather is most favourable for sightseeing and outdoor activities.
A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) is required. Apply through your tour agency at least 2 weeks in advance.
K2 Base Camp is considered safe and welcoming for tourists. Pakistan's northern regions have seen a significant tourism boom and locals are well accustomed to visitors. Standard travel precautions apply — follow your guide's advice on weather and trail conditions.
