Nestled near the Minapin, Hinarchi, and Bualtar Glaciers, it is easily accessible via the Karakoram Highway, making it a favorite among high-altitude climbers seeking a challenging yet approachable ascent. The peak dominates the Gilgit Valley skyline, adding a unique and dramatic charm to the rugged landscape. Its relatively gentle slopes and well-defined campsites make Diran an ideal expedition for mountaineers with prior high-altitude experience. The first successful ascent was achieved in 1968 by a three-member Austrian expedition, who established Camp 1 at 4,800 meters. Between Camp 1 and Camp 2, climbers encounter large crevasses, deep snowfields, and unpredictable weather, while Camp 3 provides access to the summit, often described as a “big summit plateau.” Modern expeditions have even reached the summit from Camp 2 under favorable conditions.
