Rupal Peak is not a difficult climb and is ideal for someone looking for an introduction to climbing in the Himalayan mountain range of Pakistan. Rupal Peak mainly involves climbing on snow slopes with few short sections of easy ice. As compared to other Trekking Peaks in Pakistan, Rupal Peak is not that difficult to climb. Rupal Peak is located in the far western aspect of the Himalayan range in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. Rupal Peak can be first viewed in a short distance west of the Tarashing village, which is the gateway to the Rupal Valley. Rupal Peak was first climbed in 1964 and has received a steady stream of climbers ever since from around the World. Rupal Peak is either 5642m or 5584m depending on which map you refer to. A number of routes are possible with the Western route being the most popular due to being the easiest with minimal objective dangers. The climb involves short sections of W13 but is generally an easy climb. Undoubtedly the most famous climber to ascended Rupal Peak was Doug Scott. He climbed the Rupal Peak while in the Rupal Valley in 1986 along with Alistair Reid, Michael Scott, and David Marshall. They approached the summit from the west side making three bivouacs on the route and direct summits can be made via the north face or NW couloir.
