• Overview – Wildlife Tour (Deosai)
• The tour takes you to Deosai National Park, located south of Skardu in northern Pakistan. The Deosai plains are located more over 4,000 meters above sea level. It covers an area of 843 square kilometers. It is home to a variety of animals, including Himalayan Ibex, Eurasian Lynx, snow leopard, golden marmot, grey wolf, red fox, mountain weasel, cape hare, urial, markhor, falcon, snow cock, griffon vulture, golden eagle, pika, Himalayan musk deer, sparrowhawk, lammagier vulture, kestrel, and others.
• Our journey begins in Skardu and will last five days in the park before returning to Skardu to maximize our chances of seeing and photographing the Himalayan brown bear while also keeping an eye out for other species and birds. The ideal time to see them is between late May and late October. If we go in June or September-October, the park will be less crowded than it is during July and August, when there are more local tourists. Bears hibernate in caves they have created between the end of October and April/May. Our trips are led by experts who have spent over four decades tracking animals in Gilgit-Baltistan and Wakhan Corridor National Park in Afghanistan. They know the area, understand the creatures’ behavior, and are your greatest bet for spotting them.
• The Himalayan bear has red-brown-sandy fur and is a subspecies of the brown bear that is distinct from other species. It lives in the Himalayas of northern Pakistan and Kashmir. The number of brown bears is unclear, although there are around 35 – 40 bears in Deosai National Park, which was established to safeguard the bears after they were nearly eradicated due to trophy hunting. There are around seven populations distributed across the region.
